In 2012, in response to budget shortfalls, the Oregon City School District made the decision to close Mt. Pleasant Elementary & King Elementary schools. The plan was to shift 6th graders to the middle school and adjust boundaries to move students to other schools.

Around the same time, the city had been discussing the needs of the police department and the current police facility. With strict regulations on the horizon with regard to essential needs facilities, the city began looking at options to keep the current police building or find another location.

The Oregon City Commission approves the Community Safety Advancement Fund and the city begins the process of evaluating options for a new police department.

After weighing all the options of how to fund the project and making a decision. It was now time to get the citizen's input and voter approval for the funding. Our community showed the Oregon City Police Department overwhelming support with over 81% of our citizens voting in favor of the bond measure.
